The death of the Syrian weightlifter Talal Najjar .. "formerly the strongest man in Asia"

The General Sports Federation and the Olympic Committee in Syria mourned the weightlifter Talal Al-Najjar, who passed away at the age of 69, and he is considered one of the legends of Arab and Asian weightlifting.

In a statement, the federation said: "Al-Najjar was one of the Syrian sports figures who left their mark in local, Arab, continental and international forums, in a march full of achievements with more than fifty shining medals."

The statement clarified: "Al-Najjar achieved the gold of the Homs Governorate by lifting weights in his first participation in 1970, followed by the silver in the Republic Championship in 1971, and then in 1973 he grabbed the gold of the Republic Championship, in a station that led him in 1974 and in his first Arab participation in eliciting the gold of the Beirut Championship, and then The gold of the fifth Arab session in Damascus in 1976, and the gold of the Arabs again in Libya in 1978, before he snatched the gold of Asia in Thailand in 1978, and the gold of the Mediterranean session of 1979 in Yugoslavia.

He added: "Al-Najjar broke the Arab, Asian and Mediterranean records in the 1980 Moscow Olympics, following up his harvest with the Asian gold in Japan 1981, and then the "Resilience and Resilience" championship in Libya 1982. He also won first place in the Asian Games in India, and first place in the Asian Championship in Damascus. 1983, in a year that also witnessed his crowning of the Islamic Games Championship in Iran.

He concluded: "Al-Najjar achieved first place in the Sixth Arab Tournament in Morocco in 1985, and then first place in the Arab Championship in Damascus, before closing the curtain on his participation by grabbing three bronze medals in the Mediterranean Games held in Lattakia, Syria in 1987."

After his retirement, Al-Najjar moved to the coaching profession, and then head of the technical committee for the game of weightlifting in Homs, and he also served as the vice president of the Syrian Weightlifting Federation.
