3 Brazilian players were injured by an explosive device... The suspect: the public!

The Brazilian football club Bahia announced that at least three players were injured when an improvised explosive device exploded inside the team bus, while they were on their way to a match.

The club posted pictures of bloodied bus seats and damaged windows on its official Twitter account.

A tweet from the club stated that goalkeeper Danilo Fernandez was taken to hospital with injuries to the face as a result of flying shattered glass.

Left-back Mateus Bahia and striker Marcelo Sereno were also injured in the blast.

A car next to the team bus was damaged by the explosion.

The club did not provide any other details about the explosive and did not comment on who could have planted or dropped the device.

The police, according to "Russia Today", launched an investigation into the explosion that occurred in the city of Salvador, the club's hometown.

Players who were unharmed continued their way into the match after the accident.

"The team, with dignity and professionalism, will go to the stadium and raise the club's colors," said coach Guto Ferreira.

Local media reports said the team's fans were among the suspects, in what appeared to be an attempt to intimidate the players into achieving better results.

Bahia was relegated last year to the second division of the Brazilian League, and this season has achieved one victory in the last 6 matches.
