The draw for the round of 16 of the European League puts Barcelona against Turkey

The European League draw, which was drawn today, Friday, at the headquarters of the European Football Association (UEFA), resulted in the German Leipzig facing Spartak Moscow, Russia in the round of sixteen, while Barcelona will meet its Turkish counterpart Galatasaray.

Leipzig will host the first leg against Spartak Moscow on March 10, but the stadium, which will host the return match scheduled for March 17, has not been decided yet.

And UEFA announced earlier today that any matches belonging to European competitions will not be held in Russia and Ukraine, in light of the crisis of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

"These are difficult days for Europe," said Giorgio Marchetti, deputy general secretary of UEFA, before the ceremony.

"Let me express our strong solidarity with the Ukrainian people who are facing the horrors of war, and say that football aims at only one thing, peace, and peace now."

As for Sevilla, the record holder in the number of titles crowned with six titles, West Ham will meet England, while Barcelona will meet Turkey's Galatasaray.

Spain's Real Betis faces Eintracht Frankfurt, Germany, while Italy's Atlanta meets Germany's Bayer Leverkusen in another confrontation between two teams from the major European leagues.

The round of 16 will witness two Portuguese-French matches, where Sporting Braga will meet with Monaco and Porto with Lyon. As for Glasgow Rangers, who ousted German Borussia Dortmund, they will meet with Red Star Belgrade of Serbia.
