Liverpool threatened to lose important players in the League Cup final

Liverpool assistant manager Pep Leanders said on Friday that striker Roberto Firmino had not recovered in time to face Chelsea in the League Cup final on Sunday but there was a chance that Diogo Jota could play a role.

Firmino suffered a muscle injury and has not played since Liverpool's victory over Inter Milan earlier this month.

Jota also played only 45 minutes in that match but Leenders said his ankle was in better shape.

"We will assess Firmino's condition in the next couple of days. He is pushing himself hard but he will not be ready for the final," Leenders told reporters. Running in straight lines, changing direction and stroking the ball.

It's a good sign.

He has not been ruled out, but we need to make sure he is fit."
