A few days after Kevin Hansen's crash, he has back pain and is taking painkillers to deal with it.

He will soon be home in Sweden and once there he will start to make a plan for how he will get back.

- If I can be completely recovered in two months, I would be quite happy.

The crack is not huge so they think it will heal fairly quickly.

Then there are all the nerves and things that need to recover.

The lung has also been slightly beaten.

It is difficult to say exactly how long it will take, but it does not seem to be a super long period in the future, Hansen says to SVT Sport.

If the two months are correct, he should be able to be back until the rallycross season starts in Höljes in early July.

- I feel most happy that it is not worse.

Back injuries are unfortunately something that many people get in extreme sports and then can never perform them in the same way again, he says and continues:

- I am grateful that I got away with just a crack and could only get up one day after the accident.

To have such a mild outcome on breaking the back is rare.

When I stood up, it was hard to hold back the tears.

It was an extreme relief.

You do not know how bad it can be when you have just lain still on your back and been taken care of as if you are paralyzed.

Do you have time to think dark thoughts before you know how it went?

- Yes, especially when you come in and do not know how bad the injury is.

I flew by helicopter from the runway to the military hospital in Tabuk and there were 20-25 people in the room when I arrived.

That period is pretty nasty.

You lie completely still and do not know where to go.

Kevin Hansen finished fourth in the Rallycross WC 2021.
