The Bobsleigh and Skeleton World Cup will be held at the Olympic track in Yanqing, China, for the next five years.

This was announced by the world association IBSF and the local organizers shortly after the end of the Winter Games in Beijing 2022.

For the Chinese, this is an important step with a view to the subsequent use of the very expensive and complex competition site.

"We have worked very closely with the various stakeholders over the past six years to prepare for the 2022 Olympics, but also for use afterwards," said IBSF President Ivo Ferriani.

The huge facility should be used for "competitive sports" and at the same time for "tourist purposes".

In addition to World Cup races in bobsleigh and skeleton, the agreement also provides for events as part of the Asia Cup and international training camps.

The lack of long-term benefits of the expensive new sports facilities was one of the major criticisms of the Beijing Winter Games.

At least for the Eisrinne, the agreement is now an important and quite remarkable step.

The Olympic track at the 2018 Winter Games in South Korea, for example, has not been the venue for World Cup races in bobsleigh and luge since then.
