The English club, reigning European champion and winner of the last World Cup, has indeed beaten the champion of France.
The Londoners won 2-0 thanks to a header from German striker Kai Havertz (8th) and a curling shot from American striker Christian Pulisic (63rd).
Between these two goals, Lille has nevertheless made an equal play, at times, with Chelsea.
Portuguese midfielder Renato Sanches was particularly prominent, multiplying good ball catches and inspired passes.
Edouard Mendy not worried
But the Senegalese goalkeeper Edouard Mendy was rarely worried, while the threat remained constant on the side of Léo Jardim, the Lille goalkeeper, like this recovery from the Spanish defender Marcos Alonso (18th) or this breakthrough of 'Havertz (58th).
Thanks to this result, the "Blues" can calmly approach the return match, scheduled for March 16.
But the team coached by the German Thomas Tuchel will have to be wary of a far from ridiculous LOSC at Stamford Bridge and who will still be in the game at the Pierre-Mauroy stadium.
