It is a historic deal that has been negotiated.

The players in the American national football team put their mood towards the league.

As compensation, the players will share 22 million dollars, while another 2 million will go to active people who have finished their careers.

The entire package is worth 24 million dollars, corresponding to 225 million Swedish kronor.

But only a third of what the players demanded from the beginning when they accused their union of discrimination.

"Means everything"

The American Football Association also promises the same bonus to the men's and women's teams for, for example, World Cup games.

- It all means that we in our generation can hand over the sport in a clearly better position than when we got into it, says attacking star Megan Rapinoe after the news of the deal.

The background is a six-year legal conflict where the players in the US women's national team, who have won the World Cup four times, have demanded the same financial conditions as the US men's team, ranked 13th in the world.

Different compensation

The association has blamed that the compensation from the International Football Association Fifa is significantly greater for men than for women.

Fifa distributed a total of 400 million dollars after the men's WC 2018 to various national teams, but only 30 million after the women's latest championship, 2019.

In December 2020, the players and the association agreed on better conditions at national team gatherings, such as chartered aircraft and finer training facilities.

But the dispute over compensation has continued and would go to court in March.

- It feels very good that we can now repair our relationship with the association that has been so employed for so many years due to this discrimination, says attacking player Alex Morgan.
