Pontus Farnerud took over as sports director for IFK Gothenburg in September 2020. However, the time in the club has been characterized by weak results - despite prestigious signings such as Marek Hamsik and Marcus Berg - and now the club chooses to break with Farnerud.

The club writes that certain areas of responsibility that have previously been handled by Farnerud in his capacity as sports director will be distributed within the existing organization.

- It is about bringing out the maximum of the people and skills we have with us - so that IFK Gothenburg achieves even more success.

The focus is on creating the best conditions for success.

Now we are reviewing the organization in detail and we are constantly working to strengthen it for the future, says IFk Gothenburg's club director Håkan Mild in a press release.

Farnerud was previously assistant sports director in Gothenburg and has also played in the club.

IFK Gothenburg finished eight in the Allsvenskan last year.
