Arab disappointment in the second round of the African Champions... A loss, five draws and one victory

Arab clubs disappointed yesterday after the conclusion of the second round of the group stage of the CAF Champions League, with the loss of Moroccan Wydad Casablanca against its host Petro Atletico of Angola 1-2, and the fall of five other clubs in a draw.

Sudan's Merreikh tied with South Africa's Sundowns 0-0, Egypt's Zamalek tied with Angolan host Sagrada Esperanca with the same result, Algeria's SC Belouizdad tied with Tunisia's Esperance 1-1, and Tunisia's Etoile Sahel with Botswana's Guaneng Galaxy with the same result.

Al-Ahly of Egypt, the defending champion, was tied with its Sudanese host Al-Hilal 0-0, while the Moroccan Raja Casablanca was the only Arab team that achieved victory in this round when it beat its neighbor and host ES Setif 1-0 on Friday as well.

Wydad failed to follow up on its victories and suffered a 1-2 loss against Petro Atletico in the fourth group competition, and Zamalek did not benefit from its stumble before facing them next week in the third round, and it tied with its host Sagrada Esperanza, the Angolan champion, negatively in Luanda as well.

"Wydad Al-Ummah" was Yemen itself, with a victory from the Angolan team's land, to be the second in a row, after its victory over Sagrada by 3-0. However, the host team continued to surprise thanks to its strong squad backed by a group of Brazilian players, most notably Gleason and Jaridi and top scorer Thiago Azulao.

Petro raised his score to four points and took the lead after he tied with Zamalek at the opening of his career 2-2 in Cairo, while Wydad's balance froze at three points and fell to second place in front of Zamalek (two points) and Sagrada (one point).

Negative round

In the first group, a negative tie dominated the confrontation of Al-Marikh and its guest Sundowns at Al-Ahly Club Stadium in Cairo, which the Sudanese team adopts as its land.

Sundowns topped the standings with four points, one point ahead of Al-Ahly, Al-Hilal and Al-Marikh, knowing that the latter and the Egyptian team have a postponed match from the first round.

The preference was given to the guests, and Juleso Modao single-handedly hit the ball over the goal (14).

And the positive tie imposed itself on the Maghreb summit between Esperance and its host CR Belouizdad in the third group.

Esperance topped with four points, ahead of ES Sahel (2), Belouizdad (2) and Galaxy with one point.

In the same group, Etoile Sportive de Sahel won away from home, as it advanced against its host Guaneng Galaxy with a goal by Ivory Coast Soliman Coulibaly (14) until stoppage time before conceding a 1-1 equalizer.
