The United States wanted to get its silver medals at a ceremony in Beijing before the Olympics end on Sunday.

The country's figure skating federation appealed the IOC's decision not to arrange an on - site award ceremony to the Sports Arbitration Court, Cas.

"A medal ceremony at the Olympics can not be done anywhere else and they should be allowed to celebrate in front of the whole world before leaving Beijing," said Ramsey Baker, president of the American Figure Skating Federation, in a statement.

But Cas is on the IOC's line.

There will be no award ceremony.

Cas has not published any motivation for his decision.

Valiea's tests can take months to investigate

The reason why the International Olympic Committee (IOC) postponed the medal ceremony until after the Olympics is the uncertainty surrounding the Russian superstar Kamila Valieva, who tested positive for a banned heart medicine but was still allowed to compete in the Olympics.

The IOC does not want to hand out medals that will then be taken back if Valieva is convicted.

Russia won the team competition, ahead of the United States and Japan.

At a meeting earlier this week with the IOC, President Thomas Bach offered the Americans to receive Olympic torches while waiting for the doping case with Valieva to be resolved, which could take months or even years.
