"We have treated athletes from more than 20 countries since the opening of the clinic, and many of them have requested TCM massage." Zhou Hongbin, a therapist in charge of the Rehabilitation Medicine (Traditional Chinese Medicine) Department of the Zhangjiakou Winter Olympics Village General Clinic, said in a recent interview.

The Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics are underway.

In the Winter Olympic Village, traditional Chinese medicine acupuncture, massage and other methods of treating sports injuries are highly praised by athletes.

"Many athletes have suffered muscle damage or soft tissue problems due to prolonged training." Zhou Hongbin said that the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine (TCM) uses many non-invasive TCM diagnosis and treatment techniques, such as massage and finger acupuncture, to diagnose and treat athletes.

These traditional Chinese medicine treatments have good effects in relaxing meridians and activating collaterals, relieving fatigue and injury, and have curative effects on myofasciitis, cervical spondylosis, lumbar spondylosis, and facet joint disorders that are common in athletes.

According to reports, the Rehabilitation Medicine (Traditional Chinese Medicine) Department of Zhangjiakou Winter Olympics Village General Clinic is composed of 12 medical staff from the Second Hospital of Hebei Medical University, Hebei Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine and other institutions.

Since the clinic opened on January 23, the department has received more than 50 visits from various types of personnel from more than 20 countries including the United States, Russia, Switzerland, Italy, and South Korea.

"Many foreign athletes have some knowledge of traditional Chinese medicine before, and they generally want to experience traditional Chinese medicine techniques after they come here." Zhou Hongbin said, but because of the requirements for the prevention and control of the new crown pneumonia epidemic, only "one person, one diagnosis" is required, and each athlete can be treated for each athlete. After the treatment, sterilization is still required, and the consultation can be continued after half an hour. Therefore, the number of consultations is only about 6 people every day, and an appointment is required.

But foreign athletes are still enthusiastic about traditional Chinese medicine, "some even come three or four times."

In order to allow more athletes to receive diagnosis and treatment, as long as an appointment is received, the medical staff of the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine (Traditional Chinese Medicine) will try their best to satisfy it.

"Work overtime as soon as you can. If you can't finish the work, you will arrange a time to ensure that the athletes can receive medical treatment." Zhou Hongbin said.

"Foreign athletes are very satisfied with Chinese medicine treatment." Zhou Hongbin, for example, said that Mongolian athletes had come to see a doctor before, and their symptoms were quickly improved through Chinese medicine rehabilitation treatment.

Medical staff also developed a personalized functional exercise program for them.

After the diagnosis and treatment, Mongolian athletes happily gave the medical team a thumbs up, praising the magic of Chinese medicine.

To express their gratitude, they also specially presented souvenirs to the medical staff.

Not only in Zhangjiakou Winter Olympic Village, but also in Beijing Winter Olympic Village, acupuncture, massage, bone setting and other treatments of traditional Chinese medicine have also attracted many foreign athletes to "check in".

At the same time, TCM exhibition spaces or experience halls have been set up in the Winter Olympic Villages of the three competition areas, which have become a display platform for the achievements of traditional TCM.

"The Beijing Winter Olympics is a good window for cultural exchanges." Zhou Hongbin said, hoping that their work will enable people from all countries to better understand and use Chinese medicine.
