From his first slides in the ice rink, at the age of 6, to the gold medal in ice dancing, won this week with his partner Gabriella Papadakis at the Beijing Winter Olympics, Frenchman Guillaume Cizeron looks back on his exceptional journey.

"Skating, ice dancing, it has always been a place for me where I could express myself, where I felt free," he says.

“It also played a lot in my self-confidence because I was winning competitions, so I was valued in that sense”.

“Coming out has inspired other athletes”

A confidence that may have allowed him to “liberate himself” even more by coming out via a simple Instagram post, in May 2020… “All my relatives already knew it, but I did not post it because I 've always believed that no one should have to talk about their sexuality, he recalls.

In any case, I have the impression that it may have given the courage to other athletes to speak about it, that it opened a door”.
