The German Nordic combined athletes secured silver in the decisive cross-country race of the Olympic team competition.

Manuel Faißt, Eric Frenzel, who was only released from the Corona quarantine on Monday, Vinzenz Geiger and Julian Schmid were in third place on Thursday after ski jumping from the large hill in Zhangjiakou.

The gap to the leading Austrians was only eleven seconds for the strong team.

Norway was three seconds ahead of Germany.

The Scandinavians finally secured gold in the run.

Japan won bronze.

The longest jump in the German team was achieved by Geiger, who flew 133 meters.

Frenzel was also very satisfied after his jump of 132 meters.

"It was a lot of pressure what I had now," Frenzel said during the jumping competition on ARD.

"I really wanted to return the trust that the coaches had in me." Frenzel added: "I feel good, I feel fit."

The Norwegian team competed without top combined athlete Jarl Magnus Riiber.

The 24-year-old started individually on Tuesday immediately after his corona quarantine.

After the jumping, the overall World Cup winner of the past three seasons was still in the lead.

In the cross-country race, however, Riiber took a wrong turn, lost a lot of time and ended up eighth.

According to the Norwegian combined athletes, Riiber voluntarily decided not to start because he felt out of shape after the long corona isolation.
