Julian Nagelsmann barely got himself a grip.

After the 1-1 draw at RB Salzburg in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16, the FC Bayern coach was upset about an “incredibly bad decision” by the English team of referees led by Michael Oliver.

That had whistled off a Müller scene in injury time, which could have led to Munich's winning goal.

“There is the much-cited Video Assistant Referee.

Then I just let the action run to the end and see if Leroy shoots the ball into the goal that is only occupied by field players.

Then the goal is checked, and if it's a foul, I whistle," Nagelsmann said on the DAZN streaming service.

What happened?

After Kingsley Coman's late equalizer, Bayern were still pushing for the winning goal in added time.

A high cross descended into the penalty area.

Salzburg goalkeeper Philipp Köhn punched the football in the air uncleanly out of the danger zone, right in front of Sané's feet.

But Oliver whistled for a foul by Müller, who was said to have illegally obstructed Köhn.

"That's an interesting foul on my part, hats off.

So to whistle that off," Müller grumbled when viewing the scene later.

Nagelsmann was fundamentally critical of the referees and the video evidence: "You can't always tell me when it's seven meters offside that you let the situation continue for 28 minutes and wave afterwards because everything is checked anyway.

And the situation in the six-yard box without physical contact is whistled.

That's a 100% chance to score."
