The Russian big favorite was in the spotlight at the ladies' short program on Tuesday, and despite the storms around her, could take the lead before the freestyle.

But the tours around the 15-year-old continue.

The Russian left a sample in connection with a competition at home this Christmas, which a laboratory in Stockholm during the Olympics confirmed contained traces of an illicit heart medicine.

Kamila Valieva was finally allowed to continue competing following a decision by the Sports Arbitration Court Cas.

IOC member Denis Oswald has stated that Valieva presented a possible theory as to why she was tested positive - that she ingested an older relative's medicine.

Allowed - but controversial

Now the reputable The New York Times states that Valieva's test also contained traces of two other medications that can be used to treat the heart, hypoxia and L-Carnitine.

The two substances are allowed and Valieva is said to have listed them on a control form.

However, L-Carnitine is controversial and should only be taken orally.

The product has, among other things, appeared in the investigations into the former successful athletics coach Alberto Salazar, who, among other things, is said to have instructed his athletes to use the product illegally.

As for Valieva, it is not clear how she should have taken the substances, but it is an odd combination of substances in such a young elite athlete, states the head of the US anti-doping authority.

- It is a trio of substances - two that are allowed and one that is not allowed, says Travis Tygart to the newspaper, and adds that the purpose seems to have been to increase endurance, reduce fatigue and get a more efficient oxygenation.

Silenced in transmission

Several critical voices have already been raised against Valieva being allowed to participate in the card program.

In American television, it was basically silent from the commentators during her program, in what is interpreted as a protest.

- All I can say is that there was the short program for Kamila Valieva at the Olympics, said the commentator and former Olympian Johnny Weir.

His colleague, former Olympian Tara Lipniski, added that the 15-year-old should not have been allowed to participate, reports the New York Post.
