Prior to the meeting, the Dane, who turned 30 on Monday, said that he was not afraid to return to the pitch.

- No, if I had any fear, I would not have made a comeback.

If I was not completely dedicated and felt that I could trust the doctors, trust my heart, trust the pacemaker, then I would not do this, Eriksen said after the press conference.

Comeback on Valentine's Day

And on Monday, Valentine's Day, the Dane was back in action for the first time since the premiere match in the European Championship against Finland on June 12, when he collapsed with cardiac arrest.

He was involved from the start and had to play 60 minutes before he was replaced.

Assist directly

According to the club's website, the Dane stepped in directly as a natural part of the midfield.

He managed to get an assist in the meeting, after playing until Jose Dasilva's equalizer (1-1).

He should also have been close to being noted in the goal record twice, but the shots were stopped by Frank Onyeka in the Southend goal.

Eriksen has had a long and tough road back after the incident this summer.

He was forced to leave Inter as Italian professional football has rules that do not allow players to have defibrillators - but signed on 31 January for Premier League club Brentford.
