The ad hoc panel of the International Court of Arbitration for Sport CAS began deliberations on the case of Kamila Valiyeva at half past eight Beijing time on Sunday evening.

The hearing was conducted via video conference, chaired by Fabio Iudica, a professor of contract law from Milan.

Valiewa had previously completed two training sessions on Sunday. In the starting list for the short program on Tuesday, she is listed as 26th out of 30 runners.

According to the CAS press release on Saturday, a decision by the arbitral tribunal should be based on the parties to the dispute, i.e. the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and the International Skating Union (ISU) on the one hand and the Russian anti-doping -Agency RUSADA on the other hand, "expected to be communicated on Monday afternoon".

In substance, the complaint by the associations is directed against the decision of the RUSADA Disciplinary Commission of February 9 to lift Valiyev's temporary ban.

Traces of the heart drug trimetazidine, which is on the anti-doping list, were discovered in the 15-year-old exceptional skater in a sample taken at the Russian Figure Skating Championships on December 25 in Saint Petersburg.

In Beijing, Iudica, the American Jeffrey Benz and the Slovenian Vesna Berkant Rakočevič will only negotiate about the lifting of the temporary ban.

Valiyeva herself was to testify about her case via video link.

The outcome of the team competition, which Russia won thanks to Valiyeva's outstanding performance in front of the United States, will in all likelihood only be decided at a later date once the main proceedings have been concluded.
