Confederation Cup: A summit between Pyramids and Al-Ahly Tripoli... and the rise of Berkane to regain the title

Egyptian Pyramids are making a new attempt to win the Confederation Cup, after failing in the past two seasons to break the knot of Moroccan teams, losing to Nahdet Berkane in the 2020 final and then in the semi-finals last season against Raja.

And the third Egyptian league opens its continental campaign with a difficult meeting against its neighbor and its guest Al-Ahly Tripoli, Libya, on Sunday at the "Air Defense" stadium in the first round of the first group competitions.

The Egyptian team is led by coach Ihab Galal, in addition to owning a group of distinguished players, especially internationals Abdullah Al-Saeed and Ramadan Sobhi, who will miss the match, and the Burkinabe, Ibrahima Toure, who recently joined the team.

As for the Libyan capital club, it is looking to go far in its seventh participation in the continental competition, led by Tunisian coach Fathi Al-Jabal.

The team has strengthened its ranks in recent weeks, as it included Jordanian Muhammad Abu Zureik Sharara and internationals Anis Salto and Muhammad Al-Tarhouni.

In the same group, Tunisia's Sfaxien, the defending champion on three occasions (2007, 2008 and 2013), will host Zambian Zanaco at the "Hammadi Al-Aqrabi" stadium in Rades.

The black and white team will be led by Portuguese coach Jorge Costa for the second time after his first experience in 2017.

Morocco’s Berkane Renaissance raises the slogan of restoring the title it won in 2020 and keeping the cup in Morocco after Raja’s coronation in the last edition, as it opens its quest for this goal by meeting its guest, Gendarmore of Nigeria, at the Municipal Stadium of Berkane in Group D.
