The Russian skater, favorite at 15 for Olympic gold at the Beijing Games, did undergo a positive doping test at the end of December before the Games.
Valieva was initially granted the lifting of her provisional suspension by Russian anti-doping on February 9, two days after the Olympic team gold won with Russia.
But the International Olympic Committee has decided to appeal this decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) because "a decision is necessary before February 15", the date of the start of the women's individual competition.
