Latvia is seen by many as the worst team in Sweden's Olympic group.

And it looked good for a long time.

Lucas Wallmark, after a pass from Pontus Holmberg from behind the goal, gave Sweden the lead almost halfway into the first period.

Lander placed second

After that, the Swedes took over the match completely.

And when team captain Anton Lander, nicely played by Mathias Bromé, already 30 seconds into the second period made it 2-0, it looked good to say the least.

And when Wallmark struck with a direct shot on a return 13.39 into the second period, most probably counted on a simple Swedish victory.

Two reductions

But that did not happen.

With barely four minutes left to play in the second period, Renars Krastenbergers put 1-3, and with barely a quarter left of the final period, Nikolajs Jelisejevs put a return for 2-3.

The Swedes were clearly shaken, and Latvia sometimes pressed hard for a draw.

And with games six to five, Latvia got a huge lead, with only seconds left.

A led passed straight over the offensive zone to a teammate who fired a rock-hard direct shot, but goalkeeper Lars Johansson saved and Sweden won 3-2.
