Guardiola: City are not the best team in the world

Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola said his team is not the best in the world, even after boosting its lead in the English Premier League by 12 points over its closest pursuers, after the 2-0 victory over Brentford yesterday.

City won thanks to the goals of Riyad Mahrez and Kevin De Bruyne, with a goal in each half, to keep City unbeaten in 14 league games, ahead of Liverpool, who plays against Leicester City on Thursday and has another match postponed.

"We are not the best team in the world," Guardiola told reporters. "The best team is Champions League-winning Chelsea or Argentina's River Plate. The most important thing is to win the game and we will face Norwich City in three days and we will try to win as well."

"I am not interested in talking about the best in the world. I will be happy to try to play better in every game. In the end we will know everything."

The Spanish coach has led City to the league title on three occasions since taking charge in 2016, but he has not won the Champions League despite reaching the final last year.

Guardiola continued, "We are in a good position and reached 60 points. We must qualify for the Champions League (next season) because that is the most important goal and then the competition for the title. That's all I want."
