Swiss snowboarder Nicolas Huber goes viral, dubbed 'Swiss ski comedy'

"Beijing's dynamism and diversity impress me"

Wearing a red bodysuit with the Swiss flag printed on his chest, Swiss snowboarder Nicolas Huber ran all the way to the Beijing Winter Olympics and recorded the journey with a short video.

In addition to the ecstasy, his nucleic acid test was positive. Fortunately, it has been over a week since he turned negative.

The videos he shot were exaggerated and interesting, and the plot was reversed for a time. During the Spring Festival, he appeared on many short video platforms, and everyone affectionately called him "Swiss ski comedian".

On February 7, the Beijing News "Earth Connection" interviewed the "comedian".

He highly appreciated the organization of the Beijing Winter Olympics and expressed his love for Beijing many times.

He feels honored to be able to bring joy to more people.

Talk about the popularity of the Internet

"It's great to be liked by the Chinese"

Beijing News: Your videos are very popular on Chinese social media, and some netizens call you a "Swiss ski comedian".

What do you think of this title?

Did you expect that video would become "popular" in China at that time?

Nicholas Huber: I love being creative and doing all kinds of videos.

I had a lot of time to think during the quarantine, and I had some ideas for a video, so I shot it.

To be honest, I had absolutely no idea that Chinese netizens would like my videos.

The video was shot at that time for my relatives, friends and Swiss followers.

It's great to be liked by the Chinese, and I'm honored.

Bringing joy to more people is also the original intention of my video shoot.

The Beijing News: Unfortunately, because the nucleic acid test was positive before, you could not participate in the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics.

Will you be wearing your red tights for the closing ceremony?

Nicolas Huber: My second race ends on the 15th, and on the 16th I need to fly back.

I would also love to be able to attend the Closing Ceremony, maybe four years from now I'll be wearing my leotard again for the next Winter Olympics.

Beijing News: What do you want to say to the Chinese audience who follow you?

Nicolas Huber: Thank you so much for following me.

I am very happy to share this journey with you, and I will try my best to bring you fun, sports-related content, and bring you more positive energy (Good vibes).

I want all of you to be positive about life and do what you want with 100% energy!

Make the world a better place!

  On the Beijing Winter Olympics

"Beijing Winter Olympics is very well organized"

Beijing News: This is your second time participating in the Winter Olympics, how do you feel?

Nicolas Huber: I feel great and grateful to have the opportunity to play in such a difficult situation with Covid-19.

I really appreciate the organizers of the Beijing Winter Olympics, they did a great job, the slope obstacle course is so well built!

Beijing News: How is life in the Winter Olympic Village?

Apart from the race track, what impresses you the most?

Nicolas Huber: All the Chinese who help our players are very nice and very gentle.

All the people doing nucleic acid testing and bringing us food are very nice. They have been doing their best to help us. I like Chinese very much!

Beijing News: Do you like Beijing?

Is this your first time to Beijing?

Nicolas Huber: This is not the first time I have come to Beijing. I have participated in two AIR&STYLE events in Beijing as an athlete before, and I had a lot of fun at that time.

  I love Beijing!

I come from a sparsely populated country, and I am impressed by the energy and diversity of Beijing.

I will definitely come back to Beijing in the future!

Beijing News: What are your plans for the next few days?

Nicolas Huber: We are going to Beijing the day after tomorrow (February 9th) (in Zhangjiakou during the interview).

My second event is the men's snowboarding platform, I will prepare well for my second event and strive for it, and now I am very much looking forward to it.

Talk about ice and snow sports

"The goal is to participate in the Winter Olympics in Italy in 4 years"

Beijing News: When did you start getting in touch with ice and snow sports?

Nicolas Huber: When I was about two or three years old, my parents took me to Corvatsch Park in St Moritz, where they taught me to ski.

I started snowboarding when I was 12 years old.

Being in the mountains, being outdoors, the freedom I feel while skiing and the quality time spent with friends make me love this sport so much!

Beijing News: What is your career plan?

Will you continue to compete in the Winter Olympics?

Nicolas Huber: I love my career and my life so much that I wouldn't trade it for anything else in the world.

So I will try to keep going.

My goal now is to participate in the Winter Olympics in Italy in 4 years.

I'm 27 now and snowboarding is not easy and it's a young man's sport with a lot of young snowboarders.

But I believe as long as I take good care of my body and work hard to recover, I can keep doing it.

Beijing News: This may be a "stereotype", but not all Swiss people can do ice and snow sports?

Nicolas Huber: To a certain extent, snow sports are indeed very popular in Switzerland.

I am grateful that I grew up in Switzerland and had the opportunity to get into skiing.

But not everyone likes ice and snow sports, this sport is still relatively expensive in Switzerland, I hope all Swiss people have the opportunity to ski.
