Queiroz leads Egypt against Senegal after his suspension was reduced

The Egyptian Football Association announced in a statement today, Wednesday, that the Appeals Committee of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) reduced the suspension of national team coach Carlos Queiroz to one match, and that the penalty expired after the African Nations Cup final.

The fine against Queiroz, amounting to ten thousand dollars, was also cancelled.

The Portuguese coach was suspended for two matches after he was sent off during the semi-final match against Cameroon, to miss the final defeat against Senegal on penalties, which he watched from the stands.

After the penalty was reduced, Queiroz will be able to lead Egypt against Senegal next month in two matches in the play-off of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers in Qatar.

The former Real Madrid and Portugal coach received a red card for protesting against the referee, Kary Gassama, in the face of the hosts, and the coach was agitated from the start.

Queiroz said after the match that Gasama was motivated against Egypt before the start of the competition, and criticized CAF for the decision to assign the match to this referee.

The Egyptian Federation had announced before the meeting that it had lodged a protest against his appointment.
