Natalie Geisenberger won the gold medal in the final run of the Olympic luge race.

The record world champion (Miesbach) secured her fifth Olympic victory.

She successfully defended her lead and, after winning gold medals, drew level with the most successful German winter Olympic athlete, Claudia Pechstein: in 2014 and 2018, Geisenberger won the individual and team relays.

Teammate and debutante Anna Berreiter (Berchtesgaden() secured second place and silver. Bronze went to Tatjana Iwanowa from the Russian Olympic Committee.

The 34-year-old Geisenberger, who was a mother at the Olympics for the first time after the birth of her son Leo in 2020, mastered the tricky passage in turn 13 without any problems.

The crux of the track had caused her great concern: "I wasn't nervous about the race, but about the curve down there," Geisenberger said after the first two runs.

Julia Taubitz' fall in the second run at the same point had painfully revealed the pitfalls of the track.
