On Sunday 13 February, the Nordic countries' national athletics teams will meet in Uppsala.

Sweden, Norway, Finland and a joint team for Denmark and Iceland collide in a women's and a men's competition - Nordenkampen, which SVT broadcasts.

For Sweden's new national team captain in athletics, former high jump star Kajsa Bergqvist, this is her first national team squad, which she presented today.

- It feels fantastic fun to enter this exciting year.

Now the assignment becomes even more real, when you enter the competition phase, says Kajsa Bergqvist to SVT Sport.

"Got a little dizzy"

After ten years as an expert for SVT, Kajsa Bergqvist left the TV screen this summer to become the national team captain.

She managed to learn a part from the former national team captain, Karin Torneklint, before she stepped into the new role fully.

- I got to go next to Karin and be part of the competition for Finnkampen, so doing it makes it easier for me now that I have the responsibility.

- It is a big assignment, and in the beginning I could feel that it sometimes got a little dizzy, with so many people and so many names, but now I feel that the pieces are starting to fall into place for my own part and what I want to do with the national team.

What do you want to do?

- I strongly believe that we should work tighter as a team.

Athletics is a bit special: everyone has their own set-up and you do not compete in the national team uniform during most competitions.

Among other things, we will go to more camps together, in collaboration with SOK, and invest more in the juniors and coaches.

We have already had a camp in the autumn and will have another in the spring, says Kajsa Bergqvist.

"Hanged a little loose"

Kajsa Bergqvist sees the fact that Nordenkampen ended in the end as a great relief:

- It is important that we got to this;

it hung a bit loose for a while considering the spread of infection.

But we felt that if we can do this in a good way and as infectiously as possible, it is a good opportunity for the active to meet good resistance from the Nordic countries.

- For me, it is extra fun when I get the chance to meet a larger part of the national team during the Nordic Games.

It's very important to me.

What are you most looking forward to at Nordenkampen?

- I do not want to pick out any highlights, SVT's current experts can do that (laughs), but it is, for example, a chance to see ThobiasMontler in top form.

It will be good entertainment.

Tomorrow, Wednesday 9 February, Armand Duplantis gathers the world elite in pole vault at his home arena IFU Arena in Uppsala, a competition that SVT broadcasts.

Kajsa Bergqvist will also attend that event.

- Yes, I will be there!

It feels like he is in his sharpest shape, has jumped 6.02, 6.03 and been close to the world record.

He is probably very excited to set a world record at home, so there are all chances to see it happen, says Kajsa Bergqvist.
