Juventus captain banned from playing Villarreal in the Champions League

Italian club Juventus announced on Tuesday that defender and international captain Giorgio Chiellini had injured his left calf, which could prevent him from participating with the Turin club in the first leg of the 16th round of the Champions League against Villarreal.

Juventus said in a statement on its official website that Chiellini, who was out a quarter of an hour before the end of his match against Hellas Verona (won 2-0): "Today (Tuesday) underwent radiological tests that revealed an injury to his left calf."

While the club has not specified a recovery period for its 37-year-old veteran defender, the international is likely to be out of action for about 20 days, according to several local media.

Chiellini will therefore miss the Italian Cup quarter-final against Sassuolo on Thursday, the summit meeting against Atalanta, the derby against Torino in the league, and the first leg of the round of 16 against Villarreal in the prestigious continental competition to be held on the 22nd of this month.
