Saturday, the first day of the Olympics ended with a silver medal for the French thanks to biathletes Anaïs Chevalier-Bouchet, Julia Simon, Emilien Jacquelin and Quentin Fillon Maillet.

The chances of gold will be very serious from Sunday with Perrine Laffont in the ski bump and Johan Clarey in the descent.

The first day of the Olympics ended with a silver medal for the French thanks to biathletes Anaïs Chevalier-Bouchet, Julia Simon, Emilien Jacquelin and Quentin Fillon Maillet.

A medal that could have been of another metal to within a few tenths of a second.

But history would have it otherwise.

Still, this mixed relay kept all its promises, to the point of putting Quentin Fillon Maillet into perspective.

"A little regret"

"There was a little thing missing to really get the gold medal. A little regret on that," admits the French number one.

"But I'm very happy with this run. Thanks to my teammates because these are great moments and I want to enjoy them at the ceremony tomorrow."

And once the silver medal is celebrated, the current leader of the Biathlon World Cup will set out to conquer gold.

He still has five opportunities to live up to the young retiree Martin Fourcade.

Perrine Laffont for gold on Sunday

As for the next few hours, they promise to be exciting for the French teams in the Beijing mountains: from four o'clock in the morning, Johan Clarey will fight for a medal in the downhill in alpine skiing.

And a few hours later, it will be Perrine Laffont's turn to set off on mogul skiing.
