(Beijing Winter Olympics) Meteorological Engineer: During the Winter Olympics, the temperature in the competition area is close to that of the year

China News Service, Beijing, February 5 (Reporter Liu Wenxi) From February 20, during the Beijing Winter Olympics, the temperature in the three competition areas of Beijing, Yanqing, and Zhangjiakou will be close to that of normal years, and there will be three cold air events in between.

On the morning of the 5th, a special press conference on Beijing's urban service guarantee was held at the 2022 Beijing News Center.

Ji Chongping, chief engineer of Beijing Meteorological Bureau, made the above prediction at the press conference.

In the Winter Olympics, especially the outdoor ice and snow events, the weather conditions play an important role in the smooth holding of the games and the strength of the athletes.

Ji Chongping said that according to the latest data analysis, as of the 20th, the temperatures in the three competition areas of Beijing, Yanqing, and Zhangjiakou were close to those of normal years, and there were mainly the following three cold air activities. Around February 7, there were weak cold air effects, and 3 , Level 4 north wind; around February 11 to 13, there will be weak cold air and rain and snow weather; around February 18, there will be cold air activities.

Ji Chongping added that due to the long period of time, the above forecast is still uncertain.

The Beijing Meteorological Department will closely track changes in the weather and climate situation and update forecast conclusions in a timely manner.

Ji Chongping said that in order to ensure the smooth progress of the Winter Olympics meteorological work, the Winter Olympics meteorological science and technology innovation has achieved two "firsts".

The first is to organize and implement the winter multi-dimensional meteorological comprehensive observation experiment under complex terrain for the first time in China's mid-latitude mountainous areas.

A three-dimensional and encrypted meteorological observation network for the Yanqing and Zhangjiakou competition areas was constructed, which provided precise weather "background" data for the research and development of the Winter Olympics weather forecast technology and practical services, and also laid a foundation for deepening the research on mountain meteorology in China.

Second, for the first time, the operational weather forecast capability of "100-meter-level and minute-level" has been realized.

Based on numerical forecasting, machine learning and other technologies, a Winter Olympics weather forecast product covering the 100-meter grid in the Winter Olympics area and updated in ten minutes has been formed, which has greatly improved the forecast accuracy of key meteorological elements in the Winter Olympics and effectively supported the forecast service team to carry out fine weather forecasting. Serve.

Ji Chongping introduced that the so-called "100-meter-level, minute-level" forecast means that in the core area of the Winter Olympics Mountain Arena, forecasts with a grid spacing of 100 meters and an accurate time of 10 minutes can be provided.

During the Beijing Winter Olympics, in order to meet the demand for high-precision short-term nowcasting services for the Winter Olympics, the meteorological department used encrypted automatic stations, radar data and high-resolution data, etc., and adopted technical methods such as data fusion to generate data that can cover winter A forecast of weather elements such as temperature, humidity, wind, and precipitation, updated every ten minutes, within 100 meters of the Aoshan competition area.
