Jurgen Klopp, coach of the Liverpool team, confirmed that the club's transfer strategy always depends on building a team for the present and the future.

And the British news agency, PA Media, reported that after surprisingly signing Porto striker Luis Diaz for 37.5 million pounds ($51 million) late in the winter transfer period, and after 24 hours, Liverpool ran out of time to settle a deal. Fulham's Fabio Carvalho signed for $11 million on deadline day.

Klopp stressed that it would be crazy not to retain the desire to sign the 19-year-old, whose contract expires next summer, especially as the team continues to plan for the future.

And while Klopp awaits the completion of the Carvalho deal, Diaz is a player who could have an immediate impact.

"Our strategy is to sign the right players at the right moment, we are aware of issues such as positions or contracts," the Liverpool manager said.

"We've been with this team for a long time, it's a great team, one of the most successful in the history of this club, but we'll never forget to look forward, and that's what we're already doing."

He explained, "This is what we do, building a team for the present and the future, we are happy, this is the way of the club, even before I arrived here, and I am used to this but that's how it works."

While Carvalho is seen as a player of the future, his performances for the Premier League leaders - scoring 7 goals and providing 4 assists in 18 league games - made him the focus of attention from many clubs.

"Obviously we are still interested, if we didn't care it would be crazy, but at the moment it is not in our hands," Klopp added.

The Colombian international has not yet trained with his new teammates as he is in Paris awaiting visa.
