Ashleigh Barty (25) won the Australian Open and secured the first home win since 1978 Down Under.

The number one in the tennis world rankings defeated the American Danielle Collins 6: 3, 7: 6 (7: 2) in the final in Melbourne on Saturday and won her third Grand Slam title after the French Open 2019 and Wimbledon last year.

Christine O'Neil was the last Australian to win the home Grand Slam title in 1978.

For men, the last Australian triumph to date dates back to 1976 (Mark Edmondson).

Barty thus expanded her flawless record in her third Grand Slam final, making it the 15th professional title for the 25-year-old.

Collins, on the other hand, missed her first major title in her first major final.
