Coleman was hard pressed by Trayvon Bromell, who was the fastest in the world in the 100 meters last season with 9.76, but was able to fold and win by one hundredth.

Afterwards, he bounced sideways and showed the world of athletics that he was back in earnest immediately.

Coleman was suspended in June 2020 after being noted for three failures in the stay reporting and would not be allowed to compete until 13 May 2022, but the sentence was shortened to one year because he was never tested positive.

The race was Coleman's first since February 2020.

Coleman holds the world record of 6.34 from 2018.
