An investigation was opened against the former Barcelona president, at the request of Laporta

The Spanish Public Prosecutor's Office announced today to Agence France-Presse that it has opened an investigation against the former Barcelona administration headed by Josep Maria Bartomeu, who resigned in October 2020. The announcement of the opening of this investigation comes as a result of the complaint submitted Wednesday by the current Barcelona administration headed by Joan Laporta, who He returned to the position last March.

Laporta and his management decided to file a complaint based on the report on the club's financial situation, whose conclusions will be revealed "publicly" next Tuesday.

Presenting the first internal audit in October, Barcelona general manager Ferran Reverter claimed that when the new management arrived in March, the club was "in accounting bankruptcy", with debts and future obligations amounting to 1.35 billion euros, fiscal problems and a huge salary bill.

The Economic Crimes Department of the Public Prosecutor's Office must determine whether the previous administration of the Catalan club can be prosecuted because of the financial situation that made the "Blaugrana" in an unenviable position and led to the departure of Argentine star Lionel Messi last summer to Paris Saint-Germain.

The club ended the 2020-2021 season with a net loss of 481 million euros.

Since Laporta's return to the position he previously held from 2003 to 2010, salaries have been reduced to 155 million euros, down from 759 million in March.
