日本相撲協会は27日、理事会を開き、幕内力士の英乃海と十両の紫雷が違法賭博に関与したとして、英乃海を1場所の出場停止と2か月20％の報酬減額、紫雷をけん責の、それぞれ懲戒処分としました。

英乃海と紫雷の2人は、違法賭博に関与した疑いがあるとして、今月行われた初場所を師匠の木瀬親方の判断で休場しました。



日本相撲協会ではコンプライアンス委員会に事実関係の調査と処分意見の答申を委嘱し、その答申をもとに、27日、東京 両国の国技館で開かれた理事会で処分が協議されました。



相撲協会によりますと、2人は去年7月30日ごろと8月11日ごろの2回にわたって埼玉県草加市内の違法スロット店で賭博を行ったということです。



委員会の答申では、2人はいずれも違法なものであることを十分に認識しながら賭博を行い、悪質であるとしたうえで、英乃海については「模範となることが求められる立場にありながら、自身の立場に対する自覚に欠けるというほかない」などとしています。



一方で、今回の違法スロット店に出入りして賭博に及んだ回数は2回にすぎないなどとして「常習的に賭博を繰り返していたとまでは認められない」としています。



また、紫雷については「英乃海につきあって、やむをえず賭博に及んだ面があることは否定できない」などとしています。



答申では、英乃海を1場所の出場停止と2か月20％の報酬減額、紫雷をけん責の、それぞれ懲戒処分とするのが相当としていて、理事会では答申どおりの処分を決定しました。



相撲協会によりますと、英乃海の1場所の出場停止はすでに休場した初場所が該当し、次の春場所には出場できるということです。



また師匠の木瀬親方に対しては、八角理事長が弟子の指導について厳重注意を行いました。



英乃海と紫雷の2人は、去年夏に埼玉県内で違法な賭博をしたとして、25日、警察から書類送検されています。



相撲協会ではすべての協会員を対象に研修を行うなど、今後の対策を進めるとしています。
