順当に勝ち上がれば準決勝で伊藤選手と平野選手、石川選手と早田選手がそれぞれ対戦します。
男子では、日本勢トップの世界ランキング5位、張本智和選手が史上最年少の14歳で初優勝して以来となる4年ぶりの優勝を目指します。
優勝候補の筆頭にあげられながら3年連続で優勝を逃している張本選手は、向かってくる相手に対して受け身にならず、本来の強気の攻めを貫くことができるかがカギを握ります。
このほか、東京オリンピック代表の丹羽孝希選手や去年初優勝した及川瑞基選手、去年のアジア選手権3位の戸上隼輔選手などが優勝をねらいます。
2024年に行われるパリオリンピックのシングルス代表の選考基準は、これまでの世界ランキングではなく、新たに設けられる国内選考会や来年と再来年の全日本選手権などで与えられるポイントの合計で決まることになっていて、これまでの代表選考に比べて国内大会で勝ち抜く力が求められます。
ことしの全日本選手権は選考対象ではありませんが、早くも3月から始まる選考レースに向けて弾みをつける意味でも重要な大会となります。
一方、ダブルス種目は2年ぶりに行われます。
混合ダブルスでは去年11月の世界選手権で銀メダルを獲得した張本選手と早田選手のペアに初優勝がかかります。
