Belgian Peters wins HSBC Abu Dhabi Golf Championship

Belgian Thomas Peters crowned the 17th edition of the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship, which concluded today, Sunday, after 4 days of intense competitions at Yas Links Club on Yas Island, organized by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council within the four Rolex rounds of the global program of the DB World Tour 2022.

A press release said: "The championship and the coronation ceremonies were witnessed by Sheikh Fahim bin Sultan Al Qasimi, President of the Emirates Golf Federation, Dr. Mugheer Al Khaili, Secretary General of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, Aref Al Awani, and CEO of HSBC Emirates Bank, Abdul Fattah Sharaf."

Peters managed to defeat a group of the game's brightest stars through a balanced and calm performance, thus becoming the first Belgian to win a round of the Rolex Golf Series.

Peters rose to the top of the DP World Championship standings, and returned strongly to the top 50 in the world rankings of golfers, for the first time since April 2018.

Norway's Victor Hovland shared fourth place with his French Ryder Cup counterpart Victor Dubusson, while HSBC Abu Dhabi champion Tyrell Hatton finished sixth by one stroke, with Ian Poulter, James Morrison and Denmark's Jeff Winter sharing the same ranking.

Peters commented on his victory by saying: “I am very happy to win the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, where I managed to dominate well, maybe I was not successful in finishing the pits, but I was feeling confident from the start.”
