Thursday night's event in Linköping developed into a real thriller.
But initially it was Linköping who impressed and they also took the lead early in the second period through a goal scorer to say the least.
In 32 attempts, 19-year-old Georg Weigelt had never found the right place in the SHL - he succeeded now.
Weigelt turned away from Frölundabacken Stefan Milosevic, created space for himself and angled in a well-balanced pass by team captain Jonas Junland.
- It's just bending and bending.
I try to find a surface on the "backdoor" and then I get it on the tape, says Weigelt in C More.
SVT Sports expert Håkan Loob, who has done his fair share of goals in his career, praised the 19-year-old's action.
- It is the first goal in the SHL and he does it very well.
You might think he has scored 100 goals.
He turns away the hill in a very good way and hits the open goal.
Then it is of course a very nice performance by Jonas Junland, says Loob.
Frölunda hade över två perioder haft svårt att komma till sin rätt. Men i samband med ett tidigt powerplay i tredje perioden började man ösa på allt mer framåt – och till slut hittade man rätt. Frölunda satsade allt på ett kort, tog ut målvakten och öste på framåt. Då skickade Ryan Lasch in pucken på mål där Elmer Söderblom styrde in kvitteringspucken med två minuter kvar att spela.
Men glädjen blev kortvarig. Med endast 39 sekunder sköt Ben Maxwell in segermålet vilket säkrade 2–1-segern för Linköping.
– Jag är jättestolt över killarna att vi lyckades göra mål på slutet. Vi förtjänade det, säger Marcus Högberg.
