The
DGT
has detected a new mass sending of trap emails linked to fines.
Since March 2020, the
INCIBE
(
National Institute of Cybersecurity
) warned of "a campaign of sending fraudulent emails that try to impersonate the
General Directorate of Traffic
with the purpose of spreading
malware
".
The user receives an email that supplants the
Ministry of the Interior
, with the subject
Vehicle Blockage - Fine not paid
and indicating that there is a pending fine and that the notification can be accessed from a link. This link takes you to an external website from where a
compressed .zip file
is downloaded that pretends to be the fine and contains
malware
, a trap to steal the bank details provided.
Faced with this new wave of fraud attempts, the DGT reminds that it never communicates its fines by email, but always by certified letter or, when this notification fails, through official bulletins, municipal bulletin board or the
Edictal Board of Traffic Sanctions
(TESTRA) or in the
Single Edictal Board
(TEU).
There is only one exception: that the user has voluntarily registered with the
Electronic Road Address
(DEV), an electronic mailbox to receive communications and notifications electronically with the same legal effects as the paper notification, in which case yes. You could receive notice that there is a notification by SMS or through the previously enabled e-mail, requesting that you enter the DEV and, after identifying yourself (with an electronic DNI or Digital Certificate), access the fine.
Check the fine
To make sure, before receiving an email of these characteristics, the DGT recommends entering the TESTRA where, without any certificate or electronic DNI, only by entering the number of the DNI, NIE or CIF, you can check if there is any fine.
