The Swedish Olympic Committee (SOK), together with the Swedish Ice Hockey Association and the women's hockey league SDHL, is behind the three-year initiative.

TT has previously written about the plans that are now being launched.

The association will be responsible for annual summer camps and gatherings for 20-25 younger players in the age range 15-19 years.

- I think it means a lot to all young hockey girls who come up and see that it is an investment going forward and that both SOK, SIF and SDHL are cooperating, and that it is a large and comprehensive investment, says SDHL's sports director Gizela Ahlgren Bloom who during his active career played two World Cups and took two Swedish Championship golds with AIK.

"Good conditions"

Ahlgren Bloom is pleased that the investment is being made in young players.

- I think it is good, partly because the competitive situation is not so great today, partly because we start to give good conditions to the younger players early, she says.

The bet, which will be official on Wednesday, will be presented on the same day as Damkronorna's squad for the Olympics in Beijing.

The national team was forced to qualify for the Olympics after leaving the A-WC 2019.

SOK withdrew its support for Damkronorna after the Olympic fiasco 2018 when the national team finished in seventh place, second to last, the worst placement of all time.

Awaiting Olympic results

SOK is now involved in a talent venture, but is awaiting Damkronorna's Olympic results in Beijing when it comes to joining with support directly to the A national team.

The women's crowns have not won a medal in the Olympics since the silver in Turin 16 years ago.

A steering group for the initiative has been appointed with Ahlgren Bloom, the association's national team manager Olof Östblom and SOK's sports manager Glenn Östh.

What are the most important pieces of this venture?

- That it is long-term, that the clubs are behind it and that it provides extra training opportunities and good conditions.

That the players get to gather with the best at that age and get this competitive situation.

These players are not given but they will be replaced according to who does best.

It is a good model, says Ahlgren Bloom.
