City beat Chelsea to lead the Premier League by 13 points

Kevin De Bruyne scored with a superb shot in the second half to lead leaders Manchester City to a 1-0 victory over Chelsea, and take a step towards retaining the English Premier League title on Saturday, after expanding the difference to 13 points.

De Bruyne penetrated the ball and fired a powerful shot into his former club's goal in the 70th minute, consolidating City's lead in the competition with 56 points from 22 games, while Chelsea had 43 points of the same number.

Liverpool are third with 42 points, but they have two more games, including one against Brentford on Sunday.

De Bruyne withstood a strong intervention from N'Golo Kante, while launching the ball with skill, and beat Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga with a powerful shot from outside the penalty area.

Chelsea's most dangerous attempt came early in the second half after Mateo Kovacic's pass to Romelu Lukaku, but City goalkeeper Ederson intervened in time and saved the opportunity.

City's Phil Foden could have added the second goal six minutes before the end, but he fired a powerful shot from close range just outside the goal.

Chelsea beat City in the Champions League final last season, but Pep Guardiola's team won this season, back and forth in the Premier League, after winning with a goal at Stamford Bridge last September.
