It looked like it could be a real Swedish day in the biathlon mecca Ruhpolding.

After the first, horizontal shooting, it was namely double Swedish at the top.

Both Sebastian Samuelsson and Martin Ponsiluoma had gone fast and shot full, and Ponsiluoma was in the lead, 2.7 seconds ahead of Samuelsson.

Like shooting

But after the standing shot, it did not look as good.

There, the two Swedes shot identically.

They started and finished with a boom - and thus the Swedish chances of victory and podium were basically gone.

- With full he drives for victory.

But nine had been good enough as well, stated SVT Sports expert Björn Ferry after Ponsiluoma's shooting.

"Too eager"

Shooting coach Johan Hagström had his analysis ready:

- It was a bit by the way, they were on a little too much.

It would go fast and they knew what they were shooting for, he said, and then added:

- It was not good.

"Truly a super chance"

Despite its two barriers, Ponsiluoma became the best Swede.

When most of the strong riders finished, he was 10, 57.6 seconds behind the winner Quentin Fillon Maillet.

- It was a really good race until standing.

It was really a super chance I had, to shoot really well today.

Then I had a hard time standing still.

I thought it was slippery, and I tensed up a lot in my legs and I did not get a perfect standing series, says Ponsiluoma to SVT Sport.

The World Cup leader won

Samuelsson was 4.3 seconds behind Ponsiluoma.

The winner of today's sprint was the French World Cup leader Queintin Fillon Maillet, after a full shot.

The win was his only second sprint victory in his career.

- It was a perfect race for me today, he says to SVT Sport, but does not take out any Olympic successes in advance - despite his great results:

- I do not take an Olympic gold just because I have a yellow or red vest on me.

I have to do a good job in the Olympics too.
