After the rumors, confirmation.

Postponed due to health constraints and travel between France and the United Kingdom in mid-December, the matches of the second day of the European Rugby Cups will not ultimately be replayed and will therefore end in a draw.

The EPCR wanted to avoid a headache in terms of the calendar

On the eve of its meetings, scheduled for mid-December, the French government had indeed reinstated the obligation of "compelling reasons" for travelers from and to the United Kingdom in the face of "the extremely rapid distribution of the Omicron variant" . Seven matches were affected by these travel restrictions: Bath - La Rochelle, Sale - Clermont, Scarlets - Bordeaux-Bègles, Stade français - Bristol and Toulouse - Wasps in the European Cup; Worcester - Biarritz and London Irish - Brive in Challenge.

“The options of changing the formats [the idea of a round of 16 in a dry match was considered for a while] tournaments and / or rescheduling matches were discussed in detail by all parties.

However, given the increasingly complicated schedule due to Covid-19, it was unfortunately decided that the only choice in these circumstances was to cancel these matches, ”explained the EPCR.

The third day of the European Cup is scheduled for January 14-16.
