A judge on Monday ordered the release of Novak Djokovic, detained in a detention center in Melbourne since January 6. However, the Australian government can still order the tennis player's expulsion, according to a lawyer. The Serbian has been fighting since January 5 to obtain his visa to return to Australia and participate in the Open.
The world's number one visa was canceled upon arrival in the country. Novak Djokovic obtained an exemption from compulsory vaccination to enter Australia on the grounds of a positive Covid-19 test on December 16 in Serbia (after a first contamination in June 2020), according to his lawyers.
