Combined Vinzenz Geiger took advantage of the absence of Dominator Jarl Magnus Riiber and celebrated his first win of the season a month before the Olympics.

The team Olympic champion won in Val di Fiemme with an energy performance clearly ahead of world champion Johannes Lamparter (Austria) and Johannes Rydzek, who was on the podium for the first time in three years.

"Suddenly I felt really good and just gave it full throttle," said Geiger.

The Oberstdorfer was still in tenth place after the jump, but quickly became part of a 15-strong top group on the trail.

Geiger pulled away one kilometer from the finish and took the eighth World Cup victory of his career, three of which he managed in Fiemme Valley.

His Oberstdorf club colleague Rydzek even ran from 19th place to the podium - the Oberstdorf player last stood there in the World Cup in February 2019.

Rydzek recommended himself for a place in the German team for Beijing (February 4th to 20th), but he has not yet fulfilled the full Olympic standard.

The veteran Eric Frenzel, who was third behind Lamparter and Geiger on Saturday, only had to let the top runners go shortly before the end and came in seventh.

Manuel Faißt, Fabian Rießle and the only German winner of the season Terence Weber followed in the ranks ten to twelve.

Norway's top star Riiber, who won seven of the first eight competitions of the winter, did not start with back problems like on Saturday.

Because the Dominator wants to skip further competitions before the Olympics, he also has to fear for his lead in the overall World Cup - he is currently 100 points ahead of Lamparter.
