It was a real marathon match when Mikael Ymer finally left the tournament in Adelaide.

They played for two hours and 45 minutes and the clock had time to go past midnight in South Australia.

Kokkinakis, who grew up in Adelaide, reached his first ATP semi since 2017. In the interview immediately after the match, he praised Ymer and the audience.

- I have no idea what time it is.

That everyone went so crazy took me through the first set when it felt like I was meeting a human brick wall.

The support means everything, he says.

Kokkinakis, 25, is now up against first-seeded Gael Monfils.

- It will be a fun match.

He was my favorite player when I was growing up, says Kokkinakis about his French opponent.
