The Atletico Madrid star.. The first deal for Newcastle in the era of the Saudi acquisition

English defender Kieran Trippier became the first deal concluded by Newcastle United after the Saudi takeover, after the club confirmed today its contract with the Spanish player Atletico Madrid, amid more deals expected in the winter transfer window.

The full-back will return to the Premier League with a deal that is reported to be around 12 million pounds ($16 million) plus bonuses.

The former Tottenham player signed a two-and-a-half-year contract, paving the way for his arrival in expected deals to Eddie Howe's team, who was appointed coach of "Magby's" last November.

"Newcastle is pleased to confirm the signing of England full-back Kieran Trippier from Atletico Madrid for an undisclosed amount," the club said in a statement.

Howe signed with Trippier (31 years) in 2012 when he was coach of Burnley, to return to his supervision to the Premier League after winning last season the La Liga title with Atletico, which he moved to 2019 from Tottenham.

"I am delighted to join this wonderful club," Trippier said. "I enjoyed my time in Madrid but when I learned of the interest from Newcastle United and having worked with Eddie Howe previously, I knew where I wanted to be."

He continued, "I know that a lot of work awaits us, but I know the requirements of the Premier League very well and I know how special this club is with talented players. I can't wait to start my career."

However, Newcastle is struggling to stay in the Premier League, occupying the penultimate nineteenth place, with one victory in 19 matches.

But after three months of the Saudi takeover, the club has the opportunity to strengthen its ranks in order to remain among the greats by striking deals.

Defenders appear as a priority after they conceded 80 goals in the league in 2021. With many injuries to its main strikers, Callum Wilson and French Alain Saint-Maximan, Gabonese Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been linked with a move to the club, especially after a poor relationship with Arsenal and its Spanish coach, Mikel Arteta.

On October 7, the English Premier League gave an investment group comprising the Saudi Public Investment Fund, "PCB Capital Partners" and "RB Sports and Media", the green light to acquire Newcastle United.

The Saudi stake in it will be 80%.
