At short notice, the requirements for participating in this weekend's competitions in Italian South Tyrol were tightened.

To be on the starting line, two vaccine doses against covid-19 are required instead of just a negative PCR test, which was the previous requirement.

Norwegian cross-country skier Martin Johnsrud Sundby has only taken one vaccine dose but was told on Friday that he may show up.

A message the reigning champion as well as the current overall leader Emil Persson is not entirely satisfied with.

- They set competition rules for two doses and then it applies to everyone except him.

It will be as if there is a difference between people and people, apparently, says Persson.

He continues:

- But it's good for the sport, I will not take it away from him.

It's a good name and we need them in the sport.

Is it precisely because it's a big poster name that makes them make an exception?

- Yes, it's not impossible.

I do not know what discussions they have had with the pros and cons there.

I guess I should not put in too much, says Persson.

How much do you focus on that?

- I can not influence it, I have nothing to do with those decisions and I have to comply with it.

If he's at the start, I have another opponent.

SVT broadcasts from the competitions on Saturday and Sunday.
