Officially... 3 prominent Iranian clubs were banned from participating in the "Asian Champions"

The Asian Football Confederation officially announced today the exclusion of three Iranian clubs from participating in this year's AFC Champions League, because they did not meet the conditions for participation in the most important continental competition.

The Confederation said in a press statement that it had withdrawn the licenses of the clubs Persepolis, Al-Istiklal and Jules Johar because they "did not meet all the mandatory criteria", without providing any explanations, but the criteria are broad and range from ensuring safety to meeting financial and legal standards.

It is noteworthy that Persepolis was runner-up twice in the AFC Champions League in 2018 and 2020, while Al-Istiklal participated in the tournament several times.
