Barcelona officially gets rid of Coutinho's burden for a temporary period

Aston Villa announced today that it has officially signed Barcelona playmaker Philippe Coutinho, on loan from his Spanish counterpart until the end of the season.

"Aston Villa and Barcelona have reached an agreement for the transfer of Philippe Coutinho to spend the remainder of the current season at Villa Park on loan," a statement from the English club said.

He continued, "The contract, which will become official after the player undergoes a medical examination and obtains a work permit, includes the possibility of purchasing the player," noting that the latter will travel to Birmingham in the next 48 hours.

Coutinho (29 years old) joined Barcelona from Liverpool in 2018, but he struggled to find his levels in the "Camp Nou" and spent the 2019-2020 season on loan to Bayern Munich and won the Champions League with him.

It is noteworthy that the current Aston Villa coach, Steven Gerrard, played alongside Coutinho in the ranks of Liverpool between 2013 and 2015, before the former England international moved to the Los Angeles Galaxy.
