After Djokovic, a Czech tennis star is detained in Australia

The Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs said today that the entry visa of the Czech player Renata Vorakova has been canceled, and that she is "stuck" in the same detention center with the Serbian star Novak Djokovic, ahead of the start of the Australian Open, the first of the four Grand Slams, which has caused widespread controversy in light of the strict procedures.

"Renata Vorakova is in the same detention center with Djokovic, along with several other tennis players in Melbourne," the ministry said in an email to AFP.

The ministry said it was protesting the detention, but the 38-year-old, ranked 81st in the world in doubles, agreed to leave the country and not participate in the Australian Open "due to her limited training opportunities".

The doubles player was exempted, as she had recently recovered from the Corona virus, according to the Czech daily Sport.

The player arrived in Australia in December and lost a match in Melbourne this week, along with Poland's Katarzyna Peter in the doubles category.

Djokovic, who opposed compulsory vaccinations, entered Australia this week thanks to a medical exemption from the country's very strict restrictions imposed due to the epidemic.

But he was surprised to have his visa canceled upon arrival at the airport in Melbourne, and he is currently awaiting the court's decision on whether or not to continue his stay, which is expected to be issued on Monday.

Djokovic is seeking to get a record of titles (21) in the "Grand Slam" tournaments when the Australian Open starts on the 17th of this month.
